Methanol detection in some Iranian herbal-distillates using gas chromatography

Methanol detection, the simplest alcohol, has attracted considerable attention in the last decade due to its serious toxic effects on human s health. It can cause permanent blindness by destruction of the optic nerve. We measured methanol content in six commercially available herbal distillates samples with gas chromatography (GC). The GC results exhibited a linear relationship in the range of 15-400 ppm with its detection limit was 15 ppm.
