Social sustainability and Urban formIn Traditional Iranian city

This paper focuses on the relationship between urban form and social sustainability, which is increasingly considered as one of a key components of sustainable development in recent years. Urban forms may reinforce social sustainability as well as social interaction and social inclusion or may have the potential to provide an appropriate context for crime and social exclusion. This paper examines the impact of urban form on social sustainability in traditional Iranian city. For this purpose and better understanding of this relation, the meta-analysis method was used and it was found that the form of traditional Iranian city was played an important role in creating a socially sustainable residential area. The study established that social interactions are higher in an integrated urban framework with public realm or common space. The study demonstrated that the non-fragmented pattern encouraging social interaction among residents and was also effective in promotion of consensus-based decision making, and enhancement in the areas of safety, security, and sense of place
