The Role Of Self-Confidence And Motivation In Improving Vocabulary Learning Among Iranian Language Learners

This study investigates the roles of self-confidence and motivation in enhancing vocabulary learning among Iranian language learners. Vocabulary acquisition is a critical component of language proficiency, yet many learners face challenges due to low self-confidence and insufficient motivation. This research draws on existing literature to explore how self-confidence can mitigate anxiety and encourage active participation in language learning, while motivation drives learners to engage with vocabulary through various strategies. The findings suggest that learners with higher self-confidence are more likely to take risks, practice speaking, and persist in their studies, leading to improved vocabulary retention and usage. Additionally, motivation, particularly intrinsic motivation, is shown to be essential for sustaining vocabulary learning efforts. The interplay between self-confidence and motivation highlights the need for educational practices that foster these psychological factors, ultimately contributing to more effective vocabulary acquisition among Iranian learners. This study provides valuable insights for educators aiming to enhance language learning outcomes through targeted interventions that build self-confidence and motivation
