Effectiveness of Orthodontic Brackets in Aesthetics and Function: Views from Orthodontists, Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Patients

objective: This study evaluates the perceptions of orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, and patients regarding the effectiveness of orthodontic brackets in terms of aesthetics and function. The objectives include assessing orthodontists' views on bracket functionality and aesthetics, understanding maxillofacial surgeons' perspectives on brackets in surgical cases, exploring patient preferences on comfort, appearance, and treatment duration, and identifying discrepancies in treatment expectations. The sample comprised ۵۰ orthodontists, ۳۰ maxillofacial surgeons, and ۱۰۰ patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. Results: Orthodontists preferred metal brackets for complex cases, while self-ligating and ceramic brackets were favored for aesthetic purposes. Maxillofacial surgeons emphasized bracket stability and precision in surgical cases. Patients prioritized aesthetics, comfort, and shorter treatment times, with ۶۰% preferring ceramic or clear brackets. A significant gap was found between professional priorities (clinical outcomes) and patient preferences (aesthetics and comfort). Conclusions: There is a divergence in priorities between orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, and patients, with professionals focusing on function and clinical outcomes, while patients emphasize aesthetics and comfort. The increasing preference for self-ligating and ceramic brackets suggests a shift toward more patient-centered treatment approaches. Further research is needed to bridge these gaps.
