Relationship between Risk Factors and Urinary Incontinence in Women ۳ -۱۲ Months Postpartum: A Systematic Review

ContextUrinary incontinence (UI) is one of the most serious problems during pregnancy and after delivery. It can influence on the quality of life and cause psychological problems that lead to depression and decreased self-esteem.ObjectiveTo investigate the maternal, obstetrical and neonatal risk factors of urinary incontinence ۳ to ۱۲ months after childbirth.Method:The Cochrane Library, Medline, Science Direct and Web of Science were searched for studies published from the inception of the databases up to December ۲۰۱۹, including any observational full-text papers. All data were analyzed using Review Manager ۵.۳. Of ۳۳۸ articles reviewed, ۲۰ studies were considered for meta-analysis.Result:The results of our study showed that vaginal delivery in contrast to Cesarean section (OR = ۳.۷۴, ۹۵ % CI: [۲.۷۱, ۵.۱۵], P < ۰.۰۰۰۰۱), UI in pregnancy (OR= ۵.۲۷, ۹۵ % CI: [۳.۴۰, ۸.۱۷], P < ۰.۰۰۰۰۱), episiotomy (OR= ۱.۲۳, ۹۵ % CI: [۱.۰۵, ۱.۴۵], P < ۰.۰۱), perineal tear greater than grade ۲, instrumental delivery in contrast to cesarean section, epidural or spinal anesthesia, maternal age, pre-pregnancy BMI and neonatal birth weight have a direct relationship with UI.Conclusion:Vaginal delivery, UI in pregnancy, episiotomy, vaginal tear greater than grade ۲, instrumental delivery, epidural or spinal anesthesia, maternal age, pre-pregnancy BMI and neonatal birth weight have a direct relationship with UI.
