At list five medically important scorpion species from buthidae family including Andoroctonus crassicauda, Odontobothus doriae, Mesobuthus eupeus, Buthotus saulcyi and Buthotus schach are present in Iran. The toxicity of their venom to mammalian is due to toxins present in their venom. Venom milking was carried out using electric shock. The toxicity of their venom was determined by injecting the venom intravenously to mice. The LD of the venoms from mentioned five species of scorpions found to be . , , , and g/mice for Andoroctonus crassicauda, Odontobothus doriae, Mesobuthus eupeus, Buthotus saulcyi and Buthotus schach respectively. The mixed venom of all five mentioned scorpions was taken on Sephadex G gel chromatography for one step purification of toxic fractions. Seven fractions were obtained, out of which fractions F and F showed toxicity of . and . g/mice respectively. Three times the toxic fractions were injected to horses and the antivenom titer was determined. The average titer of antivenom was found to be, LD for Androctonus crassicauda, LD for Odontobuthus doriae, LD for Mesobuthus eupeus, LD for Buthotus saulcyi and LD for Buthotus schach. The neutralizing capacity of antivenom made by using the toxic fractionations in the present study was % higher than the method using crude venom.
