چکیده مقاله:

Gastric Cancer (GC) is a multifactorial disease. It is the fourth malignant tumor with the high mortality rate over the world. MicroRNAs(miRNAs),short non-coding RNA molecules(with 21-25 nucleotides),are important specific regulators . miRNA-21 is overexpressed in GC and is a diagnostic biomarker for it. The aim of this study is to determine the role of miR-21 in the behavior of Gastric Cancer. To determine the role of miR-21 in the behavior of GC, The PubMed, Scholar, Elsevier(EMBASE) and Medscape databases were searched and 29 articles were extracted and checked. Most of the studies revealed that miR-21 can be a potential biomarker for detection of differentiation, migration, invasion and lymph node metastasis of GC tumor and it can characterize the prognosis of the tumor. Based on three studies miR-21 correlated with GC tumor size and according to one of these studies, miR-21 couldn’t show the prognosis of the tumor. In one study, there was no relation between overexpression of miR-21 and tumor metastasis. Most of the studies showed that miR-21 correlated with resistance to drug treatment (chemoresistance) and one study reported that inhibition of miR-21 increase sensitivity to chemotherapy. In some cases of GC chemoresistance occur, but its mechanisms are not well understood. This review indicates that miR-21 is a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in Gastric Cancer, and is associated with tumor differentiation, migration, metastasis, and chemoresistance
