The Effect of Using Drama on Reading Comprehension through the Strategies of Reading for EFL Young Learners

چکیده مقاله:

The purpose of the present research was to study the effect of using drama activities on reading comprehension through the strategies of reading for EFL young learners. In general, the aim was to show how EFL young learners can progress to better comprehend the reading materials through the reading strategies (skimming, scanning, and metacognition) and also an attempt was made to show how drama techniques can enhance the effect and quality of learning reading comprehension. The methodology was quasi-experimental and the population of the research was 102 eighth-grade female students from Shohadaye Enghelab high school in the year 2015-2016, among whom, 66 participant were finally chosen. They were randomly assigned into three groups (control group and the two experimental groups). In one of the experimental groups, students were exposed to drama activities in reading classes, while in the other experimental group students underwent drama activities as well as reading strategies. However, in the control group, students were taught reading comprehension in the conventional way. Having assigned them into the control and experimental groups, the researchers ran a Pre-test and Post-test. In order to evaluate the results, independent T-test, one way- ANOVA as well as Post hoc sheffe tests were administered. The results illustrated that the application of drama techniques can have a great impact on Iranian EFL young learners comprehension ability.
