An investigation of the steel type and hoop stress relations on aboveground cylindrical steel tanks under earthquake

Hoop and axial stresses magnitude on the wall shell of storage tank are the most factors in healthmonitoring of the tanks. Controlling of the maximum amount of these factors can guarantee the safety ofthe tank performance. As the objective of this paper is to study the kinds of steel used for the wall shelleffects on the hoop stress values, the Finite Element Modeling (FEM) strategy was used to simulatedynamic response of the liquid tank system. Abaqus is used as the main finite element computersimulation software to make a nonlinear dynamic analysis.
