چکیده مقاله:
Despite the clinical evaluation that a dental implant never achieves full contact with supporting bone, many studies consider the secondary stability of an implant as a fully osseointegration between the implant and its surrounding bone. The present work evaluated the implant stability in transition to the secondary stability through a finite element analysis. Further, it was investigated whether it is needed to have a secondary stability as a full osseointegration for an implant success or not. The study considered different osseointegration conditions on a three-dimensional model and eventually stated that it is not essential to have 100% osseointegration for secondary stability. However, it was revealed that a higher osseointegration degree is desirable and safer although the clinical observation of 50~80% contact between bone and implant could satisfy the implant success. Based on this study, higher osseointegration degree bore greater levels of stress, but according to the relevant yield strengths, there were a greater margin of safety, too.
