چکیده مقاله:
Stuttering is a complex communication disorder that, beyond its speech-related aspects, is associated with cognitive, emotional, and behavioral factors. It can lead to significant psychological, social, and occupational consequences during middle adulthood. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Dr. Taghizadeh’s therapeutic model, based on mental and cognitive simulation, in treating middle-aged individuals with stuttering. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a single-group pre-test and post-test approach. The study population consisted of middle-aged individuals with stuttering, from whom ۳۰ participants were selected using purposive and convenience sampling. Data collection was performed using Dr. Taghizadeh’s Stuttering Severity Assessment Scale, which evaluates the severity of stuttering in dimensions related to speech and physical effort. Following the pre-test, participants underwent the therapeutic intervention based on mental and cognitive simulation, after which the post-test was administered. The findings indicated that this therapeutic model significantly reduced the severity of stuttering in the participants and improved their condition regarding the severity of symptoms to a more favorable level. These results suggest that interventions based on mental imagery, cognitive restructuring, and mental exposure can be effective in reducing stuttering symptoms and improving psychological readiness for speech. In conclusion, Dr. Taghizadeh’s therapeutic model is an effective approach for treating stuttering in middle-aged adults, capable of addressing the cognitive and emotional dimensions associated with stuttering alongside its speech-related components.
