The Effectiveness of Using Flash Cards in Teaching English Vocabulary as a Second Language to Male Students of Karaj Elementary Schools

Learning vocabulary was a key part of learning a second language, especially for young students starting to learn English. Good vocabulary teaching helped students communicate well and understand spoken and written texts. However, many traditional methods, like rote memorization, did not engage students and led to poor vocabulary retention. This research aimed to show how visual aids like flash cards could improve language learning, using a mixed-methods approach that combined both quantitative and qualitative data. This study compared two groups of male elementary students in Karaj, Iran: one used flash cards and the other used traditional methods, focusing on vocabulary retention, student engagement, and motivation. Data were collected through tests, surveys on student attitudes, and classroom observations. The results provided important insights for teachers in English as a Second Language (ESL) education.
