Innovative Planning and Design for Revitalization of Historic Urban Spaces: A Case Study of Oudlajan, Tehran

Historic urban areas, as a crucial part of the cultural and social identity of cities, face numerous challenges such as infrastructure degradation, economic decline, and physical transformation over time. Oudlajan, one of the oldest historical neighborhoods in the heart of Tehran, despite its significant cultural and historical values, has experienced a decline in environmental and functional quality due to the lack of effective and modern planning in recent decades. This research aims to provide innovative solutions for the revitalization of this neighborhood by using a combination of environmental analysis, interviews with local stakeholders, and spatial modeling to design solutions that align with contemporary needs while preserving the historical integrity of the area. The findings of this study indicate that utilizing participatory approaches, leveraging modern technologies in urban planning, and enhancing public spaces can contribute to the revival of social and economic functions in the region. Additionally, proposed solutions include redesigning major streets, creating multifunctional spaces, and strengthening sustainable infrastructure. The results suggest that the successful revitalization of Oudlajan requires the integration of historical identity with modern needs and active local community participation in the revitalization process.
