Relationship between Underlying diseases in the elderly people and Infection with the corona virus: Evidence-based review

Introduction: Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that infect animals and humans and can cause a common cold to acute respiratory illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the infection a pandemic. The purpose of this article is to review the latest research on the prevalence of Infection with the corona virus in the elderly with underlying diseases. Materials and Methods: This systematic review was performed by searching the Google Scholar search engine and the Sid, PubMed, Scopus, Science direct, Pro quest databases with the keywords of corona virus, Underlying diseases , Personal hygien in elderly people . In this study, we used ۱۸ randomized controlled clinical trials, semi-experimental experimental, descriptive-analytical trials, descriptive from ۲۰۱۹ to ۲۰۲۱.Results : Studies show that the presence of age-related diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney failure, arthritis, heart disease, COPDs, etc in the elderly increases the chances of these people becoming infected with the corona virus .disability and inability to properly observe the principles of personal hygiene and self-care, along with diseases such as weakened immune systems and chronic underlying diseases that can mask the symptoms of infection, delay the definitive diagnosis and treatment of this disease. Other research has shown that ۱۵.۱% of all patients and ۲۷% of critically ill people are over ۶۰ years old. Discussion and Conclusion: Immune system responses in the elderly are slower and less effective, so the elderly are more at risk of coronavirus and its complications than other groups, so these people need more attention and in this regard should take the necessary measures to Teaching social distancing and observing health protocols to these people should be on the agenda!
