Towards 6G-Based Smart Cities

By focusing on wireless communications as one of the core infrastructures of smart cities, this paper investigates the shortcomings of 5G technology in meeting the demands of smart cities. The 6G is introduced as an alternative to 5G and the technologies needed to create and develop smart cities with 6G are expressed. An envision of the role of 6G in the development of smart cities components which currently not handled by 5Gtechnology is expressed. We discuss the rising technologies such as internet of things, unmanned aerial vehicle, quantum communications, artificial intelligence, terahertz communications, blockchain, three-dimensional networking, cellfree communications, integration of wireless information and energy transfer which are integrated parts of 6G architecture to guarantee quality of service of communications in smart cities.Then, for each of the aforementioned technologies, we provide the core tenet, key challenges, and modern approaches andsolutions
