Role of Urban River in Improvement of Cityscape

Urban rivers have played a critical role in the development of cities. Mehran River in Tabriz was chosen as the subject of this study, in order to explore the relation between urban riverbank reconstruction and cityscape attractiveness shaping; this study adopted the approach of focus group interview involving urban management officials, non-governmental organizations and local residents. A questionnaire based on the Kano Model was established and carried out in five major dimensions including existing resources, social activities, food and accommodation, transportation, and spatial comfort so as to determine the elements that help shape riverbank attractiveness. The results of the investigation were analyzed, and suggestions for riverbank development were provided. The statistical analysis revealed that to enhance the riverbank cityscape attractions of Mehran River, the priority must be given to physical and aesthetic development simultaneously.
