IDENTIFYING AND AUGMENTING THE INTER PERSONAL SKILLS OF THE 2030 SMARTER WORKFORCE IN ELT CLASSROOMS USING DIGITAL TOOLS

Interpersonal communication skills are very much desirable for developing other vital social skills or people skills or soft skills or transferable skills. A person who has good interpersonal communication skills communicates well with his/her ideas and will definitely be able to solve the crucial problems that occur both in his/her private and professional lives. Interpersonal skill is an exchange of information between two or more people and about how well a message is delivered using the non-verbal messages such as tone of voice, facial expressions, gestures and body language. On the other hand interpersonal skills refer to communication exchange between a son and his father, an employer and an employee, between sisters, teacher and a student, two lovers, two friends and so on. This skill has to be and can be enhanced in the ELT classroom with a wonderful combination of literature and Technology. The main aim of this paper is to identify the necessary interpersonal communications skills needed for 2030 workforce such as verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, manners/etiquettes, assertiveness, negotiation and conflict resolution and enhance it in the ELT class classroom using activity based teaching method. Most of the activities are framed using web tools and tested in ELT classroom especially for the MBA students and the same can be utilised for the other students who are going to be the smarter work force of future workplace in this competitive and technology oriented global world market.
