This paper uses nonlinear spring–based model to investigate the influence of four parameters on the stress–strain behavior, fracture stress and fracture strain of multilayer graphene sheets. Fracture properties are tested for influence of chirality, the density of Van der Waals interactions, increases in the number of layers and the presence of vacancy defects. It is observed that, initially an armchair graphene sheet is stiffer than a zigzag graphene sheet but the later fails under greater stress and strain. The current study finds that the effect of Van der Waals forces is more tangible after a critical strain. Graphene sheets with fewer numbers of layers (especially monolayers) are more sensitive to the presence of the vacancy defects.
