Introduction: Mindfulness meditation is one means by which a person canlearn to accept what is in the present moment, not to react in a conditioned way,and to cope effectively facing rather than avoiding current physical states,emotions, and thoughts. The main purpose of this study was how Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) helps women to cope better with hospitalstress and fear of cancer recurrence.Methods: In this program, 44 women participated and completed whole ofcourse. Participants were examined before and after by pertaining tooutcomes stress, depression, medical symptoms questionnaires. Paired t-testsexamined changes from before to after the MBSR course. Changes inmindfulness were correlated with changes in post- MBSR variables, and aregression analysis examined which variables contributed to a reduction inanxiety after program participation.Results: Adherence to the program was 81%. Participants reported significantreductions in stress (p < 0.0001), anxiety related to cancer (p < 0.0001), andmedical symptoms (p < 0.0001), and significant improvements in mindfulness(p < 0.0001), and coping with illness (p < 0.0001 Changes in mindfulness weresignificantly related to changes in anxiety related to cancer, stress, andemotional coping. Increases in mindfulness predicted reductions in fear ofcancer recurrence.Conclusion: It appears that learning how to be mindful is beneficial for womenafter their treatment for breast cancer. For patients making the transition backinto their normal lives, MBSR may help in several ways such as Openness tochange, Self-control through self-awareness, Shared experience, Personalgrowth, and Spirituality.
