چکیده مقاله:

With the growing cities come more technical problems. Traffic management and drainage system are two vital issues or any metropolitan city. Like any other big city, Karachi city,Pakistan, also needs attention toward traffic management and drainage system. The main objective of this study is to model inter-disciplinary issues of storm water and its effect on the traffic of Karachi. Henceforth, this study is done using hydraulic model and trafficmodels including their calibration and validation and current and future simulation of stormwater and its impact on traffic. The busy section of an arterial road (University Road) of city, from National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) to Hasan Square is selected. For urban drainage, PC Storm Water Management Model (PCSWMM) and for traffic, Verkehr In Städten – SIMulations modell (German for Traffic in cities - simulationmodel ) (VISSIM) models are used which are later coupled. For the rainfall event of August 3, 2013, drainage and traffic conditions are analyzed and then predicted for 50-year and100-year return period. Results include ponding areas within the section along with traffic delays. Further analysis shows that for 100 years return period, there is maximum 0.318 ham (3180 cubic meter) water stored in the depressions of road after 10 hour of rainfall that gives maximum delay of 35 minutes on NIPA to Hasan Square section of University Road.
