چکیده مقاله:
Brain tumors are of the most common tumors in adults. Signs of these tumors are dependenton the clinical factors of the disease. Among these factors are patients age, location and sizeof the tumor and neurological signs such as headache, nausea, vomiting etc. Genesinterference in forming the cancer is of the same importance in that diagnosis of a significanttreatment is possible through identification of the genetic pathways. Mutation of P53 gene isthe first diagnosable genetic change. Objective: Determination of the number and thecorrelation among some of the clinicopathological factors such as age, sex, location of thetumor and the first signs of the disease through expression of P53. In this research, data of100 patients with brain tumor were collected from their clinical files based on questionnairesand the results of the immunohistochemical test is statistically analysed. Among 100 casesstudied, 46% were over 50 years old. Also the rate of the cancers development was higher inmen than in women (with a ratio of 76 to 24). There was a significant relation between ageand the expression of p53 (P<0.05). 4% of the cases were smokers and 2 of them showednegative immunohistochemical results. In regards to the family background, only six per centwere recorded to have cancer development in their families, two of whom showed negativeresults in immunohistochemical P53 tests.64 of the 100 cases of study claimed that they hadheadaches and only two had nausea. 26 of the 64 patients showed negativeimmunohistochemical P53 test results. According to the results, 46% of the tumors werelocated in the frontal area (highest) and only two per cent had their tumors in the occipitalregion of the brain.(lowest) From the mentioned 46%, 24 patient were negative inimmunohistiochemical P53 test. In addition, no considerable relation was found betweensmoking, family background, place of the tumor and gender, and the expression of P53(P>0.05). In this study, only age had a considerable relation with the expression of P53 geneamong the studied clinicopathological factors. It can be understood that expression on P53gene is an age-dependent marker; the higher the age is, the lower the expression becomesand therefore, the chances of the genes mutation increase. It should be noted that thepatients in this study were of lower ages than the ones in other recent studies.
