چکیده مقاله:
Cancer is one of the most mushroomed diseases in the world. In Pakistan it is leading causeof death. Now a day it is getting serious concern along with other ailments. Now the world ismoving toward functional foods from pharmaceuticals. Various foods have been analyzed fordifferent functional properties such as heart diseases, diabetes, skin problems, hypertension,hypercholesterolemia and cancer. Onion (Allium cepa) is one of the functional foods whohave potential impact on myriad types of cancers i.e oral, pharyngeal, esophageal, stomach,colorectal, laryngeal, breast, ovarian, prostate, and renal cell cancers. Studies have revealedthat onion has not only prevents cancer development but also mitigates cancer especiallycolorectal cancer. Various active compounds such as polyphenols have striking effect oncancer alleviation.
