The Relationship Between Vocabulary Learning And Dictation

Vocabulary test and dictation, though widely known as a testing device, can be considered a good learning technique to improve learner's language proficiency. This study investigates the relationship between them. To this end a "fill in the blank" as a vocabulary test from the reading of the second year of high school and the complete text from the same reading as a dictation were used. All 20 students were selected randomly. The environment condition and administration were the same for all the participants. The results according to the coefficient of correlation of Karl Pearson's formula showed that there was a high degree of positive correlation between these two tests. Implications can be drawn for all English teachers at school particularly in high school intending to create more fruitful opportunities for learning English
