چکیده مقاله:

Libraries as an indispensable part of education require great physical environments to encourage students to use it all over the year. Since library is a built environment mainly for reading purpose, daylighting quality as a visual sensory element of physical environment is essentially significant to its architectural design and users' perceptions, behaviors and performance. The aim of this paper is to propose a model through which daylight quality in libraries can be achieved. Results indicate that daylight quality can influence users' satisfaction, preference, aesthetic judgments and social communications which are psychological effects, affecting users' moods. On the other hand, it can influence users' visual performance, visual comfort and health which are physiological effects, affecting perception. Affecting users' perceptions and moods may result in a special behavior in libraries like adjusting position, changing seat or controlling daylight. Indeed, assessing daylighting quality in libraries is significantly dependent on how it addresses psychological and physiological effects, effects which influence human performance as a whole
