The Moderating Role of Cultural Orientation (Collectivism vs. Individualism) on the Relationship Between Self-Worth and Subjective Well-being in Adolescent Males: A Meta-Analytic Review

This meta-analytic review investigates the moderating influence of cultural orientation (collectivism versus individualism) on the association between self-worth and subjective well-being among adolescent males. Drawing upon a comprehensive search of academic databases for studies published between ۲۰۲۰ and ۲۰۲۵, this study synthesizes findings from ۱۰ empirical investigations involving a total of ۴۳۶۵ adolescent males. The primary objective was to determine the overall strength of the relationship between self-worth and subjective well-being and to examine how this relationship is modulated by the cultural context. Our analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between self-worth and subjective well-being in adolescent males. Crucially, the meta-regression indicated that cultural orientation significantly moderates this relationship, with a stronger association observed in individualistic cultures compared to collectivistic cultures. These findings underscore the importance of considering cultural nuances when examining psychological constructs in adolescence and provide valuable insights for culturally sensitive interventions aimed at fostering well-being. The implications for theory, research, and practice are discussed.
