چکیده مقاله:

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has rapidly become an influential technology in education, creating new possibilities for teaching and learning, particularly in English language education. AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Claude are increasingly being used to support language learning through personalized instruction, instant feedback, content generation, and enhanced learner engagement. At the same time, their growing use has raised important concerns regarding academic integrity, ethical use, data privacy, critical thinking, and the evolving role of teachers. This review paper examines the opportunities, challenges, and future directions of integrating Generative AI into English language education through a review of recent studies in the field. Overall, the literature suggests that when combined with sound pedagogical practices and responsible AI use, Generative AI can enhance language learning, promote learner autonomy, and assist teachers in designing more engaging and adaptive learning experiences. At the same time, its educational value depends on thoughtful implementation, AI literacy, and maintaining an appropriate balance between technological innovation and meaningful human interaction. Instead of thinking about GenAI as a replacement for teachers, Generative AI should be viewed as a complementary educational resource that supports teaching and learning while preserving the essential role of educators. The discussion also offers practical insights for teachers, researchers, and policymakers seeking to integrate AI into English language education in effective, ethical, and sustainable ways.
