چکیده مقاله:

The emergence and dissemination of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella enterica serovars through food chains pose a critical public health threat. Conventional chemical and physical interventions exhibit diminishing efficacy and contribute to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) selection. Engineered bacteriophages, through synthetic biology tools like CRISPR-Cas, receptor-binding protein (RBP) modification, and depolymerase fusion, offer a targeted, self-amplifying, and programmable solution. This review analyzes current engineering platforms, industrial applications, regulatory landscapes, and implementation challenges. Engineered phages achieve ۲–۴ log₁₀ reductions in Salmonella on food matrices and within biofilms, with enhanced stability and host range. We propose a Phage-Stepped Intervention (PSI) framework for integration into existing food safety systems. Despite promising results, regulatory harmonization, manufacturing scalability, and phage-resistance management require further attention for widespread adoption.
