In response to the limitations and vulnerabilities inherent in traditional paper-based and electronic voting systems, blockchain technology has emerged as a promising alternative for modernizing electoral processes. This article explores the potential of blockchain-based voting systems to enhance transparency, security, and public trust in elections. Traditional voting systems face challenges such as logistical inefficiencies, susceptibility to fraud, and long wait times, while electronic systems raise concerns around cybersecurity risks. Blockchain, with its decentralized, immutable, and transparent architecture, offers a novel approach that could address these challenges by ensuring tamper-resistant vote recording and facilitating public verification of results while maintaining voter privacy. The article outlines the limitations of conventional voting methods and the strengths of blockchain solutions, highlighting both the advantages and challenges associated with blockchain voting, such as the need for technical infrastructure, digital literacy, and addressing environmental impacts. Key features of a conventional blockchain voting system are discussed, along with a proposed model to empower citizens in democratic participation. Additionally, the article presents the technical steps for implementing a blockchain voting system, including system design, voter registration, and post-election audit processes. The adoption of blockchain technology in voting has the potential to not only streamline the voting process but also foster a more active, engaged, and direct citizen role in decision-making within democratic systems.
