Comparison of Illness Perception in patients with Leukemia and Skin cancer

This study compares Illness Perception in patients with leukemia and skin cancer. The present study is a quantitative study conducted using a causal-comparative method. The statistical population included all patients with leukemia and skin cancer. A total of ۳۵۰ people (۱۷۵ patients with leukemia and ۱۷۵ patients with skin cancer) were identified according to the Cochran formula and selected non-randomly (purposively). The research tool included the Broadbent Illness Perception Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the latest version of SPSS software (SPSS version ۲۷). The findings showed that there was a significant difference (P<۰.۰۵) between the numerical components of disease perception in patients with leukemia and skin cancer, as well as between the type of perceived causes of the disease (answer to question ۹ of disease perception) in patients with leukemia and skin cancer. Based on the findings, there is a significant difference (P<۰.۰۵) in the perception of the disease in patients with leukemia and skin cancer. The patients' perception of the cause of the disease depends on the type of cancer and psychosocial contexts. These findings not only confirm this study, but also emphasize the necessity of designing psycho-educational interventions appropriate to the type of cancer and the patient's beliefs. Also, the high overlap of psychological factors in both groups (more than ۵۰%) indicates a common cultural framework in interpreting the disease based on psychological stress, which should be given special attention in health policymaking and counseling services.
