The recycling of metal machining chips, particularly from CK۴۵ steel, offers an effective pathway for reducing industrial waste and improving material properties. This study investigates the mechanical property enhancements of recycled CK۴۵ steel chips using Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS), a rapid sintering process. Results show significant improvements in hardness, compressive strength, and fracture resistance compared to the cast CK۴۵ sample. The SPS-processed samples, particularly those processed with coolant, exhibited increased hardness (۳۰۱ HV) due to microstructural refinement and reduced micro-cracks. Compression tests revealed enhanced yield strength and ultimate tensile strength for SPS-۱ and SPS-۲, linked to grain refinement. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of fracture surfaces revealed narrower cracks in the SPS samples, indicating superior fracture toughness and resistance to crack propagation. These findings underscore the potential of using recycled machining chips in combination with advanced processing technologies, such as SPS, to produce high-performance materials for industrial applications. The results highlight the significant role of thermal regulation, particularly coolant use during machining, in optimizing the mechanical properties of recycled materials.
