The development of active food packaging materials with enhanced antibacterial activity and environmental sustainability has garnered considerable attention in recent years. In this study, magnetic biodegradable nanocomposites based on chitosan were synthesized and evaluated for their potential application in active food packaging. Chitosan, a naturally derived biopolymer with inherent antimicrobial properties and excellent film-forming ability, was employed as the primary matrix. To further enhance its functionality, magnetic nanoparticles were incorporated via in situ co-precipitation, yielding nanocomposites with improved mechanical strength and magnetic responsiveness, facilitating potential recyclability and controlled release of active agents. The structural, morphological, and magnetic properties of the nanocomposites were comprehensively characterized using different techniques. Antibacterial performance was assessed against common foodborne pathogens Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, demonstrating significant inhibitory effects attributed to the synergistic action of chitosan and magnetic nanoparticles. Furthermore, biodegradability tests confirmed the environmental compatibility of the developed materials. These findings suggest that magnetic chitosan-based nanocomposites hold great promise as sustainable, multifunctional materials for active food packaging, offering an effective strategy to improve food safety and shelf life while addressing environmental concerns.
