The Role of International Organizations in Combating Drug and Dietary Supplement Trafficking

Background and Objective: Drug and food supplement smuggling is a serious problem that not only threatens public health but also affects the economic and social security and food security of countries. This phenomenon has become more complex due to the development of communication and transportation technologies and requires international cooperation to combat it. International organizations play an important role in reducing this type of smuggling by providing legal frameworks, exchanging information, and raising awareness. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to examine the role of international organizations in combating drug and food supplement smuggling. Method: The research method is qualitative and the library data collection method is selected, and the data analysis is descriptive-analytical. Findings: Some international organizations, including the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization, and the International Criminal Police Organization, play an important role in combating drug and food supplement smuggling. As these organizations have investigated and monitored the flow of medicines globally through various programs, including the 'Global Program to Combat Counterfeit Medicines' and the 'Illicit Medicines Control Program', or in order to promote public awareness and train health professionals, as well as joint operations and coordination at the global level, they identify and arrest drug smugglers and criminal groups, and on the other hand, they can closely monitor the movement of goods across borders and use modern technologies to identify suspicious shipments.
