Effects of Oral Coenzyme Q۱۰ on Reproductive Parameters in Intact Male Dogs

Coenzyme Q۱۰ (CoQ۱۰) is a key mitochondrial cofactor with antioxidant properties, widely studied for its role in cellular energy metabolism and oxidative stress regulation. While CoQ۱۰ has been investigated in infertile dogs, its effects on reproductively healthy males remain unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of oral CoQ۱۰ supplementation on semen quality, hormonal profiles, and testicular hemodynamics in intact, clinically normal male dogs. A total of ۱۶ adult male dogs were randomly assigned to four groups: a control group receiving a placebo and three treatment groups receiving CoQ۱۰ at low (۳۰ mg/kg), medium (۶۰ mg/kg), and high (۱۰۰ mg/kg) doses for ۱۲ weeks. Reproductive assessments, including semen volume, sperm concentration, total sperm count, motility, and morphology, were performed biweekly. Testicular hemodynamics were assessed using Pulsed Doppler ultrasonography. The results demonstrated dose-dependent improvements in sperm motility and concentration, with significant increases in total sperm count in the high-dose group. However, testosterone and estradiol levels remained stable across all groups. This study suggests that CoQ۱۰ supplementation enhances semen quality in reproductively healthy dogs, potentially benefiting breeding programs. Further research is needed to evaluate long-term implications.
