Exploring Self-Efficacy: A Study of Iranian Male and Female High School EFL Learners

The current research aimed to explore the self-efficacy domains of Iranian senior high school EFL learners with an account of gender differences. The study was conducted to unravel needs assessments used to identify learner individual differences due to the rise of mixed-ability classrooms. The study utilized Goleman's Muris (۲۰۰۱) Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Adolescence/Children (SEQ-C) to assess the self-efficacy domains of participants. For this purpose, ۱۰۰ senior high school EFL learners (۵۰ males and ۵۰ females) were randomly selected during the ۲۰۲۳-۲۰۲۴ school year. The descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Phi/Cramer's V statistic test were used to analyze the data. The results demonstrated a moderate-to-strong relationship between gender and self-efficacy domains. Moreover, Females were more dominant in academic self-efficacy. Conversely, males exhibited greater emotional and social self-efficacy than their female counterparts.
