چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Cancer is a devastating disease that affects millions of people worldwide In this regard, with the increase in the incidence and prevalence rate of cancer, the development of different diagnoses and treatments approaches has been ongoing for decades, but palliative care has been remained little discussed in cancer fighting program Palliative care is a specialized medical approach that focuses on providing physical, emotional, and spiritual support with intention to improve the quality of life for patients with serious disease conditions like cancer Indeed, it is not just for end of life care, but can be provided at any stage of a patient's illness and enhance the ability of both patients and their families to cope with the challenges of disease When it comes to cancer, genetics plays a crucial role in both risk and treatment Indeed, some people are born with genetic mutations that increase their risk of developing certain types of cancer Accordingly, the intersection of genetics and palliative care is an area of growing interest in the medical community. Methods: Key databases were searched and the relevant medical literature were reviewed. Results: Genetic assessments can provide valuable information to inform palliative care decisions, such as pain management and end of life care However, in the case of genetic counselling and testing near the end of life, it is unlikely that the patient would benefit from such tests, but it can challenge concerns about the hereditary aspects of cancer in their relatives and help to their family members to gain valuable insight into their own genetic risks which can help them to make decisions regarding their health care. Conclusions: It can be concluded that the integration of genomics realm with palliative care can open up new avenues for more holistic, targeted, and effective preventative measures for family members of patients particularly.
