چکیده مقاله:

Targeted Therapy for Esophageal Cancer Esophageal cancer is among the deadliest gastrointestinal cancers, affecting over ۶۰۰,۰۰۰ individuals worldwide annually. Early detection and appropriate treatment are crucial for improving patient outcomes. Recently, targeted therapy has emerged as a promising strategy for managing this disease. Methods of Diagnosing Esophageal Cancer Effective diagnosis of esophageal cancer relies on several techniques that accurately assess the disease's type and stage: _ Endoscopy: This is a primary method for detecting esophageal cancer. A thin tube with a camera allows doctors to visualize the esophagus and obtain biopsies from suspicious areas. _ CT and MRI Imaging: These imaging techniques help evaluate tumor spread to surrounding tissues and identify metastases, providing essential information on tumor size and location. _Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS): Combining endoscopy and ultrasound, EUS assesses cancer invasion depth into the esophageal wall and surrounding tissues, playing a key role in staging. _PET Scan: This technique utilizes radioisotopes to analyze the metabolic activity of cancer cells, aiding in the identification of primary tumors and metastases, especially in advanced stages. Latest Treatment Method: Targeted Therapy Targeted therapy is recognized as a leading treatment for esophageal cancer. This approach focuses on specific molecules involved in cancer cell growth and survival. Recent advancements include the use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and monoclonal antibodies, which precisely target proteins and disrupted signaling pathways in cancer cells, significantly improving disease management and minimizing side effects. Reasons for Choosing Targeted Therapy These methods are favored for their accuracy in identifying cancer cells while sparing healthy cells. Targeted therapy specifically acts on cancer cells, resulting in fewer side effects compared to traditional treatments like chemotherapy. Advantages of Targeted Therapy One key advantage is the reduction in side effects due to precise targeting. Additionally, targeted therapy often yields superior outcomes in tumor reduction and patient survival rates compared to conventional methods. Notably, patients with high levels of HER۲ receptors or EGFR mutations significantly benefit from targeted therapies as effective first-line treatments.
