One of the basics of seismic design in common buildings is to ensure the performance level of lifesafety and the possibility of using the building after severe earthquakes. The experience of pastearthquakes shows that despite the design of the structures according to valid regulations and their lifesafety performance, the structures have undergone permanent damages and their restoration ispractically impossible after the earthquake and requires reconstruction. In this research, theperformance of ۲ & ۴ steel moment resisting frames under far field and near field earthquakes arestudied, focusing on the detail of modeling of frames. This paper explores concepts for mitigatingresidual axial shortening of wide-flange steel columns in moment-resisting frames (MRFs) by meansof detailing fixed connections. The effects of fixed connections on the steel MRF seismic response isinvestigated through nonlinear response history analyses. A ۲&۴-story steel MRF case study isemployed for this purpose.
