چکیده مقاله:

Biodiversity, the variety of life forms and ecological processes, is fundamental to ecosystem health and resilience. Quantifying biodiversity requires effective metrics that account for species richness relative to sampling effort. One such metric is Menhinick's species richness index, developed to standardize species diversity assessments across varying sampling intensities. In this paper, we explore the theoretical foundation of Menhinick's Index, which calculates species richness (S) normalized by the square root of sampled individuals (N). A higher index value (D) signifies greater species richness per individual, indicating higher biodiversity. We provide practical guidance and Python code for implementing Menhinick's Index, enabling researchers to evaluate biodiversity consistently across ecological studies and locations. Understanding and applying Menhinick's species richness index is essential for biodiversity monitoring, conservation planning, and ecological research. This paper empowers researchers to leverage Python for biodiversity assessments, contributing to our understanding of ecological systems and supporting effective conservation practices.
