The Synergy of Interaction Aesthetics and Affordances: A Theoretical Framework

While designers rely heavily on aesthetics and affordances to create effective interactions through their creations, there is currently a dearth of studies or theoretical frameworks that bridge these two critical aspects of design. Our proposal entails a theoretical elucidation that establishes a connection between the intrinsic functionality of aesthetics, specifically interaction aesthetics, and affordances within the design paradigm. We posit that interaction aesthetics, alongside other factors, facilitate users in discerning potential actions and subsequently identifying affordances. Our primary objective is to delve into the significance of interaction aesthetics in the design workflow and to proffer an explanation for their pivotal role in users' detection of affordances during their engagement with artifacts
