The prevalence of human papillomavirusin patients with cervical cancer, A systematic review

Background: Cervical cancer (CC) starts in the cells lining thecervix (the lower part of the uterus). According to estimates, in۲۰۲۳, ۴,۳۱۰ of the approximately ۱۳,۹۶۰ people diagnosed inthe United States will die from this cancer.Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause skin lesions followedby multiple epithelial cancers, mainly of skin and mucosalsurfaces. Also, this virus is one of the most common sexuallytransmitted infections.This study aims to investigate the prevalence of HPV amongCC patients.Materials and Methods: In this systematic review study, twopeople conducted a simultaneous search for the keywords ofthis study in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct databasesuntil April ۸, ۲۰۲۳. The inclusion criterion was to bealigned with the main purpose of the study, and the exclusioncriterion was lack of access to the complete file and incompleteinformation of the article.Results: ۱۷ included studies included ۱۳۳,۲۵۶ (۶,۴۸۹ patientsand ۱۲۶,۷۶۷ controls) people with an average age of ۴۴.۷۸years. The total number of women infected with the HPV viruswas ۱۸,۰۳۰, of which ۵,۲۱۴ people, in addition to having CC,were detected with HPV from the samples received from them.Therefore, the prevalence of this virus in CC patients in thisstudy is ۸۰.۳۵%. Most species extracted from this virus wererelated to species ۱۶ and ۱۸, respectively. Studies conducted inItaly and China respectively had the highest rates of CC withthe presence of HPV.Conclusion: Due to the high prevalence of HPV among CCpatients, it is essential to perform timely screening and vaccinationof this virus to prevent problems caused by this disease andreduce treatment costs.
