Background: Pain is a prevalent and distressing symptomamong cancer patients that can significantly impair their qualityof life, at times even more so than the malignancy itself.Numerous studies have investigated the efficacy of variousnon-pharmacological interventions, such as music therapy, inameliorating pain in cancer patients. Recent reviews suggestthat music therapy is a profession that addresses multiple physical,social, and psychological needs. The objective of this studywas to conduct a comprehensive literature review on the effectsof music therapy on pain relief in cancer patients.Methods & Materials: The literature search for this reviewwas conducted utilizing reputable databases such as Ovid, Elsevier,PubMed, and Google Scholar, encompassing the periodfrom ۲۰۱۰ to ۲۰۲۲. An initial total of ۴۰ articles were identifiedusing the specified keywords, and following screening, ۱۴relevant articles were selected for further review. Case-controland cohort studies were subsequently selected and reviewed indetail. At this stage, a total of ۶ articles were included in thefinal analysis.Results: According to the literature review, music therapy exertsa positive effect on pain relief in cancer patients. All of thereviewed articles reported a reduction in pain sensation following music therapy. Music was typically listened to for durationsranging from ۲۰ minutes to ۱ hour per day, with classical musicbeing widely utilized in the studies. Several articles also reporteda decrease in depression following music therapy. Notably,none of the studies reported any adverse effects or side effectsassociated with music therapy.Conclusion: Studies have demonstrated that music therapy canbe effectively employed as a complementary treatment modalityto alleviate pain in cancer patients. In addition to its analgesiceffects, music therapy has also been shown to reduce depressionin these patients. Furthermore, music therapy represents aninexpensive treatment option
