Increased expression of LMNTD۲-AS۱ incolorectal cancer as a promising prognostic and diagnosticbiomarker

Background: According to numerous studies, long non-codingRNAs (lncRNAs) have been linked to the development of avariety of disorders including colorectal cancer (CRC). Colorectalcancer had a low incidence several decades ago. However,it has become a predominant cancer and now accountsfor approximately ۱۰% of cancer-related mortality in westerncountries. The purpose of this study was to investigate how theexpression changes of LMNTD۲-AS۱ have been involved withCRC development.Materials and Methods: TCGA data were used to evaluatevariations in LMNTD۲-AS۱ expression in CRC. Data normalizationand gene-zero expression removal were among theearly pre-processing steps. The Cox regression test and clinicaldata from the TCGA were used to associate the expression ofLMNTD۲-AS۱ with patient mortality. Moreover, the MSigDBdatabase and co-expression network were utilized to find pathwaysconnected to the LMNTD۲-AS۱. Finally, the ROC curvewas used to assess the diagnostic potential of LMNTD۲-AS۱.Results: The findings showed that the expression of LMNTD۲-AS۱ in CRC was significantly increased compared to normalcontrols. Increased expression of LMNTD۲-AS۱ was associatedwith poor prognosis of patients, confirmed by the K-Mcurve as well. Co-expression network analysis revealed thatLMNTD۲-AS۱-related genes are involved in pathways relatedto CRC malignancy such as metastasis.Conclusion: Results of this study suggested that the over-expressionof LMNTD۲-AS۱ could serve as a proper prognosticand diagnostic biomarker in CRC. Additionally, the ROCcurve results indicated that the expression level of LMNTD۲-AS۱ could be an appropriate biomarker for differentiatingcancer cells from normal cells. It has been also indicated thatLMNTD۲-AS۱ could be related to CRC malignancy and accordingly,a promising therapeutic target
