چکیده مقاله Evaluation of Overall Survival among PatientsSuffering from Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma

Background: Regarding cutaneous malignant melanoma(CMM), survival studies would be more appreciative due tothe growing trend of incidence worldwide. Here, we aimed todetermine the survival trend in patients suffering from CMMconsidering various demographic and tumor characteristics.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study,57 patients with confirmed melanoma were included from April2014 to February 2019. Using the Kaplan-Meier method andLog-Rank test, a correlation between survival probability andmultiple factors with prognostic potential, e.g., gender, age, tu- mor thickness, mitotic rate, anatomical sites, and chemotherapy, were assessed. Results: Out of 57 patients, 33 patients (57.9%) were male, and24 patients (42.1%) were female, with a mean age of 59.5 ±22.7 years. In addition, the mean survival was 43 ±15 months, ranging from 15 to 82 months. Regarding tumor thickness, 26patients had 1 to 4 mm, 18 patients 5 to 10 mm, and 5 patients11 to 30 mm. Mitotic rate in 19 patients was 1-2 mm2, while in32 patients was 3mm2≤. Infiltrated lymphocyte was also positivelyreported in 36 patients (36.6%). In the case of treatmentintervention, 55 patients received chemotherapy. According tothe results of the Kaplan-Meyer test, the mean survival did notshow a significant difference (P<0.05). Moreover, a profoundcorrelation was not found between survival rate and differentage groups, mitotic rate, thickness, lymphocyte infiltration, andchemotherapy. Conclusion: Despite a higher survival rate among females withCMM, it was not statistically significant. Furthermore, therewas no association between survival rate and assumed prognosticvalues.
