چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: The term artificial intelligence refers to the ability of a machine to behave likea human. Artificial intelligence has several branches including machine learning and deeplearning. Machine learning and deep learning learn the relationship between data usingstatistical methods and return the output with high accuracy. In dentistry, the accuracy ofdiagnosis and providing services to patients is important. Hence, the use of artificialintelligence can help to increase the accuracy and improve the quality of the services provided. The purpose of this review study is to investigate the opportunities and challenges of usingartificial intelligence in dentistry.Search Method: This review study was conducted through an advanced search of reputablescientific databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar searchengine. Articles with keywords “Dentistry”, “Artificial Intelligence”, “Deep Learning”, and“Machine Learning” were evaluated from ۲۰۱۵ to November ۲۰۲۲. After the initial search, only the title and abstract of articles related to the study objectives were examined andirrelevant articles were removed. The articles related to the research were also evaluated usingthe MMAT (Mixed Methods Appraisal tool). Results: The studies included in this review show that artificial intelligence in dentistry hasbeen used to analyze large volumes of data to help dentists in clinical decision-making, patientmanagement, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Artificial intelligence using data-drivenalgorithms has emerged as a reliable method to enhance future applications in dental fieldssuch as diagnostic dentistry, head and neck cancer, restorative dentistry, dental prosthodontics, orthodontics, radiology, and periodontics. Also, artificial intelligence models should be capableof logical explanation and visualization and interpretation. So far, artificial intelligence hasrarely been used in dental offices; Because there are not many valid data and there are no fixedcriteria for their development and ethical issues. Conclusion: Using artificial intelligence is a way to improve medical services, save time andmoney. Artificial intelligence will satisfy and meet the needs of patients, reduce clinical errorsand provide the best possible treatment solution. Therefore, it is better to include familiaritywith the applications of artificial intelligence in the dental curriculum.
