چکیده مقاله:

The primary maladaptive schemas of deep cognitive structures include beliefs about the self. Schemasare organizations of reality that develop as a result of objective experiences from the environment.Especially those that have been formed since the beginning of life have a more significant impact. Inother words, schemas include organized elements of past reactions and experiences that form acontinuous and stable body of information that can be guided for subsequent perception and recognition. In that they are filters or formats that we use to receive, organize and process information. In fact, eachperson uses a set of schemas to understand his world. The development of schemas often goes back tochildhood. The schemas that are developed in the early years are often outside the field of consciousness, and when life stimuli stimulate one or more schemas, they are activated and personal information isautomatically processed according to these schemas. The present study was conducted to predict thedegree of marital commitment based on early maladaptive schemas and marital satisfaction. The presentdescriptive correlational study used convenience sampling to select ۴۵۴ subjects (including ۲۳۰ womenand ۲۲۴ men) from the entire population of couples who had been married for one to ten years and wereresiding in Tehran, Iran. The subjects completed the ENRICH Couple Scales and the Early MaladaptiveSchema Questionnaire-Short Form (YSQ-Sf۲) along with the Dimensions of Commitment Inventory(DCI). The data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. The results showed a significant positive relationship between early maladaptive schemas and maritalcommitment. Among the five components of early maladaptive schemas, impaired autonomy andperformance, impaired limits and over-vigilance/inhibition (P<۰.۰۱), could predict maritalcommitment. Moreover, a significant positive relationship was observed between marital commitmentand marital satisfaction, and of the components of the latter, conflict resolution and idealistic distortion(P<۰.۰۱), could predict marital commitment. Overall, marital commitment could be predicted bycomponents of marital satisfaction (۲۴% of the variance) and also early maladaptive schemas (۱۳% ofthe variance) Based on the findings, the degree of marital satisfaction and consequently maritalcommitment are recommended to be enhanced through the identification and modification of earlymaladaptive schemas along with the use of couple therapy and teaching problem-solving skills tocouples so as to prevent potential extramarital relationships or divorce.
