چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors which are originated from glial cells in the central nervous system. These tumors have different types and are classified into ۴ grades. Gliomas are associated with high mortality and morbidity and their incidence is increasing. The etiology of these tumors is not well understood, but various risk factors have been reported. Methods: Reliable articles indexed in databases PubMed, EMBASE, EBSCO Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Science Direct, ProQuest, ISI Web of Science, Google Scholar, Magiran, SID, Iran Medex, and Irandoc were used up to September ۲۰۲۱. Quality assessment of clinical trials was conducted using Jadad scoring system. Results: Reviewing the articles that investigated the risk factors for gliomas showed that the most important environmental risk factors for glioma which have been evaluated so far are ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, diet, alcohol, tobacco, and head injury. Conclusion: Among the environmental risk factors that have been evaluated for glioma. Only ionizing radiation is associated with an increased risk of glioma. There is no significant association between diet, alcohol consumption, tobacco, head injury, and non-ionizing radiation with glioma.
