چکیده مقاله:

Vitamin D is important for the stability of many physiological functions, and a deficiency of this vitamin is associated with an increased risk of several diseases, including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer and Parkinson's disease. Numerous studies have proved the association between vitamin D intake and the improvement of age-related cognitive impairment. In this study, the effect of vitamin D on motor coordination disorders of adult male rats in the model of Alzheimer's disease with electrical lesion of nucleus basalis magnocellularis (NBM) is investigated. In this experimental study, male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups including (n=۷) control, NBM lesion, sham (electrode entry into NBM without induction of electric current), NBM lesion+Vehicle vitamin D (sesame oil), and NBM lesion+Vitamin D. The treated groups received vitamin D and Vehicle for ۱۰ days starting ۳ days before lesion by intraperitoneal injection. Then, the motor activity was evaluated with a Rotarod apparatus. The results of this study show a significant reduction in the time spent on the Rotarod apparatus in the NBM lesion group compared to the control group (p˂۰.۰۰۱). The results did not show a significant difference between the sham and control groups. There was no significant difference between the Vehicle vitamin D and NBM lesion groups. The NBM lesion+vitamin D group showed a significant increase in the duration of stay on the Rotarod apparatus compared to the NBM lesion group (p˂۰.۰۵).The results of this study showed that vitamin D improved motor coordination in NBM-lesioned rats.
