ground motion tend to amplify as they propagate through different soil layers and reach to ground surface . Depending on the depth and type of foundation soil building structures on the ground will have different responses to that mtion as opposed to when they are mounted on bedrock this motion amplification also depends on the frequency content of the earhquake.
