چکیده مقاله:

Descurainia sophia has been used in Iranian traditional medicine as a remedial supplement. The purpose of the recent research was to investigate the therapeutical effect of aqueous extract of D. sophia on ibuprofen-induced gastroduodenal ulcers in rats. Materials and Methods: In this study, 60 rats were used. The animals were randomly divided into six subgroups, including negative healthy control, untreated negative control, positive control receiving omeprazole 50 mg/kg and three groups receiving the D. sophia aqueous extract at 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg concentrations. After 14 days, gastroduodenal ulcers were caused by ibuprofen. Four hours after oral administration of ibuprofen, the rats were sacrificed and blood, stomach, and duodenal samples of them collected for biochemical, hematological, and gross parameters analysis. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan post hoc test. Findings: Several doses of D. sophia could significantly (p<0.05) reduce the raised levels of ALP, AST, ALT, GGT, cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride, total and conjugated bilirubin, urea, and creatinine and increase HDL, total protein, albumin, WBC, lymphocyte, platelet, RBC, Hb, PCV, MCV, MCH, and MCHC as compared to the untreated group. Also aqueous extract of D. sophia prevented significantly (p<0.05) gastroduodenal ulcers as compared to the untreated group. Conclusion: The obtained results indicated the gastroduodenal protective, hematoprotective, hepatoprotective, and nephroprotective properties of D. sophia aqueous extract
