چکیده مقاله:

Background and objective: T. polium traditionally used for treatment of kidney and liver diseases and inflammations but some studies reported hepatotoxicity effects of this plant. So we aimed to investigate if it is true or not. Hepatoprotective effects of T.P was assessed by diabetic liver damaged rats. Materials and method: After preparing of aqueous extract of Teucrium polium ,4 weeks old male wistar rats, became diabetic by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (50 mg/kg). they were randomly divided into Five groups: 1- model group (diabetic group), 2-diabetic group was gavaged T. polium (100 mg/kg) ,3- diabetic group was gavaged T. polium (200 mg/kg) 4- normal group (non diabetic) was gavaged T. polium (100 mg/kg), 5- normal group was gavaged normal saline(1ml). ). AST and ALT was Measured with ROUSH kits. Obtained data were analyzed by SPSS (version 24). Findings: Diabetes increased significantly in the ALT level(P<0.001). And the AST level was higher than the control group, but it wasn’t significant(P=0.13). The use of 100 mg/Kg and 200 mg/Kg T. polium in diabetic rats caused a significant decrease in the ALT level(P=0.0001, P=0.007 respectively). But the dose of 100 was more effective. A comparison of 100 mg/Kg and 200 mg/Kg doses also showed a significant difference(P=0.01), indicating a better performance of 100 dose. No significant difference was found between the control group and the healthy rat T. polium consumer(P=0.382). Conclusion: Not only No hepatotoxicity was observed, but also hepatoprotective effects of T. polium was proved in our study
